While other bands are hard at work trying to add more styles to the ever-growing list of death metal subgenres, Philadelphia's Trenchrot break the genre back down to basics on their debut full-length, Necronomic Warfare. Instead of worrying about where death metal is going, Trenchrot put the focus on where it came from, delivering an album that embraces the sledgehammer-to-the-skull approach of early acts like Bolt Thrower and Obituary. Instead of pushing the technicality to 11, Trenchrot put all of their energy into delivering something more visceral and to the point, sidestepping any unnecessary naval-gazing to craft an album of old-school sonic violence that will have death metal veterans reliving the genre's glory days.
